Yes. Prescribed electrical work — most fixed wiring work in your home — must be carried out by a person registered and licensed with the Electrical Workers Registration Board (EWRB). You can check any worker on the public EWRB register, and we show register details on profiles where we have them.
How much does an electrician cost in NZ?

How is payment handled?
Payments are arranged directly between you and the provider. Serproz does not collect or hold the payment. You agree the price with the provider and pay them on the terms the two of you agree. Serproz Payments milestone funding — money held while the work happens, released when you approve, or automatically 7 days after the provider requests completion, with an open dispute preventing auto-release — is built and published in the payment terms, and is not in use yet.
Does Serproz charge customers a platform or booking fee?
No. Customers can post a job, receive and compare quotes, and hire through Serproz without a customer platform fee. You pay only the job price you agree with the provider.
Will I get a Certificate of Compliance (CoC)?
For prescribed electrical work, the electrician must issue a Certificate of Compliance confirming the work meets NZ safety standards. Ask for it before you confirm the job is complete — it matters for insurance and when you sell your home.
What happens if something goes wrong with the work?
Serproz does not hold the payment, so the money itself is settled between you and the provider. The dispute process still runs on the job record: it supports direct resolution and then evidence-based platform mediation, with statutory rights preserved. Once the in-platform payment step is in use, a funded milestone can be approved for release, or auto-releases 7 days after completion is requested unless a dispute is open.
